The Nazar wards off the curse of the “evil eye”, which is one of humanity’s most enduring beliefs. It protects the wearer from ill fate, staring back at poor omens with unflappable serenity. The blue colour is connected to the Ancient Egpytian copper mines, where they produced blue glass Eyes of Horus. Peoples from present day Turkey and its surrounding regions saw this, and particularly appreciated the blue tone, for its associations with their sky-god, Tengri. The Nazar remains a powerful protective amulet, and alongside the fierce Gorgoneion, and calming pearl, melds strong symbolism with history.
